Your Boyfriend’s Aftershave Is the Key to a $5.00 Makeup Miracle

Listen up, I’m about to share a major key. Screen Shot 2016-02-19 at 11.40.08 AM* DJ Khaled voice

Seriously. Before trying it out, the doubt for this makeup hack was real. I have sensitive skin #HypoallergenicOnFleek and am pretty skeptical about the hacks that seem to pop up every week – spoon contouring… really?

To be 100% honest, the main reasoning for trying this hack was:

1. Ran out of my Sephora free samples.

2. An unwillingness to pay 30 stones for more primer. *Neauxp!

3. I’m one free sample away from being entered into Sephora’s “Banned From Free Perks” database. It exists. Prove me wrong.

So after heeding the advice of beauty super blogger Nikkie Tutorials along with the added reassurance of Huda Kattan and trying it out, I’m a true believer.

“Hello I’m from the Church of the Contouring Episcopal Tabernacle Assembly of the Lord! I’d like to share the good word of cheap aftershave  primer with you.”

What it isNivea Men makes an amazing after shave balm: Nivea Men Post Shave Balm in sensitive. Put on a small amount before applying your makeup for the day and it’s pure primer magic!

Typically by lunchtime the struggle is real for your “no makeup” makeup look you perfected with the guidance of your vlog hero Jackie Aina. By 5:00p the makeup is merely a shadow of its former self, begging for deliverance into slayosity. With the aid of expensive primers, the problem can be alleviated but to get a high quality primer that lasts long can put you out of $30! – That’s like, 3 coffee drinks at Starbucks.

Much like the expensive primers, this product goes on light and makes your makeup adhere ALL DAY. The difference?  Nivea Post Shave Balm (like most products marketed to men)  is cheap; usually $5.00-$7.00 depending on which drugstore you choose.

How it works: Simple. This product has a high amount of glycerin in it. It fills in lines when you smooth it on and makes for a much better surface for your makeup to adhere to.

Application tips: Use a small amount around there size of a dime and smooth the product on your face. Work the product in until it gets an almost tacky texture and I apply your makeup as usual. I used it with my typical makeup routine complete with finishing spray and it worked really well. The makeup did not budge.  Be careful when applying because the solution can be a bit runny and can pour out of the bottle faster than you might expect.

Added Perk: Since its a mens product it’s cheap and has a light masculine scent that smells like every man you’ve ever been attracted to!

Enjoy! Vote in the poll!
